* Sara Brestensky was in charge of today’s meeting. She welcomed
our special guest and board member,
Jim Rooney. Maria McCalaster announced the board members of the Johnny Costa
Center to the Music

* Maria McCalister, invited the students of the project to be
special guests at the first Johnny Costa
fundraiser on June 15, 2000. She showed the invitation that Gina Datres designed
and discussed the event,
to be held on June 15 at Hillcrest Country Club. She said that Jim Rooney would
discuss the students' role
in the project.
* Pat Condelli discussed the possibility of students participating
in special community days in New Kensington,
Arnold and Lower Burrell. The purpose of our participation would be to publicize
the Johnny Costa Center
to the community.
* Buddy Lee, Secretary of the New Kensington Musical Society,
brought in a letter, “Salute to the Students
of Valley Middle School,” for their 19002000 Johnny Costa Portfolio. Mrs.
Greco is working on
reminding people to write a letter for the students to insert into their Johnny
Costa Portfolios.
* Mary Ann Justham said that the Costa Kids just completed learning
their first number after six practices.
The Costa Kids performed for the Music Monday participants, and their performance
was excellent.
The Kids will now work on polishing their performance. They are scheduled to
perform at the annual end-
of- the-year band concert and possibly June 15 fundraiser.
* Mrs. Greco discussed the possibility of creating a virtual tour
of the Johnny Costa Center on CD and Video
for next year's grant. This tour would include the various musical themes throughout
the Center, such as
Big Band, Ragtime, Jazz, Rock and Roll as well the Art Gallery, the Pond, the
musical library, and the
Computer area which would feature quizzes on musicians of all kinds. The purpose
of the CD would be
shared with foundations that need to explore the scope of our project. Juliet
Drennan is working on
next year’s grant.
* Jen Pallone the student in charge of the Display Board circulation,
presented a detailed explanation
of the Johnny Costa Display Board schedule. In addition the Music Monday participants
suggested
we take the boards to all music stores in the Valley as well as Pianos and Stuff,
Volkweins and Jazz clubs
in the Pittsburgh area. GREAT SUGGESTIONS!
* Alice Callahan is working on laminations for the KIDS RECOGNIZE
MUSIC Display Boards.
Sara Brestensky and Megan Pelican are creating the headline lettering. We hope
to complete them soon.
* MONDAY, MAY 22, 2000 is the next MUSIC MONDAY MEETING. Hope
you all can make it.
